The McNew property was built as a boarding house in 1920 by Walter McNew, a railroad man and entrepreneur who owned several boarding houses and apartments in the city. Welcome to our opulent and exclusive two-bedroom, seven-room suite with over 1200 sqft. This very comfortable home away from home is tastefully decorated throughout. The bathroom features a beautiful glass and tile shower, and the private kitchen has elegant granite countertops and tile floors.

As was customary in the boarding houses of yesteryear, there are living quarters for the owner or host. Maison McNew is no different, and that space is a very elegant two-bedroom, one-bath suite that includes a full kitchen with laundry, a separate dining room, and a private enclosed porch or sitting room, perfect for relaxing with a good book and a glass of your favorite beverage.

Our two kitchens (one private and the second in shared common areas) feature a large refrigerator and oven with a range top, coffee maker, and large double sink. In the shared kitchen, you will find a small table and friendly sitting area beside two large windows with lots of natural light, making this a separate, cozy bonus area.

Two parking spaces at the back of the building are on a first-come-first-served basis. You may also park on the street (there are no meters to feed). This apartment is located on the first floor, and you can also access the community's fully stocked kitchen and laundry room just down the hall, also on the ground floor.

As with all our one-bedroom units, Suite 2 includes a microwave, coffee maker, and small refrigerator. The space is a true treasure, exuding a sense of history and charm that will transport you to another era. In each one-bedroom apartment, you may prepare quick meals or heat up leftovers with ease using your own modern microwave. You can also store your groceries or beverages in the ensuite mini-refrigerator. Alternatively, you may use the shared, community, fully furnished kitchen also on the ground level.

The efficient yet functional design, plus the complete complement of dishware and tableware, ensures you have everything needed for your culinary needs during your stay. Lamps and ceiling fans are found throughout, and each bedroom has convenient USB and electrical outlets bedside.

This suite is located in a back corner, so it feels private and secure, with easy access from the rear parking lot entry, just at the top of the back stairway. As you can see from the photos, just because this is the last, it’s definitely not the least! This unit is cozy, comfortable, and attractively decorated as well. Common Areas

The property was purchased in 1983 and converted it into an office building, which is what it remained until it was decided to completely restore the building and make it a “modern-day boarding house or, more properly, a true guesthouse.” The name Maison McNew was chosen because “maison” means house or home in French, and she liked the alliteration of Maison McNew.

The property now has all the comforts of home, with private suites that include a separate bedroom, modern bathroom, and living room.

Common Features

Every guest in the one-bedroom suites has access to our full kitchen and laundry room located on the ground level. All suites have a 65” smart TV linked to our complimentary WIFI. The nearest intersection is W 6th and Chester Streets. Upon entering the building, you will find two steps to get onto the main floor. Our single-bedroom suites each include a small refrigerator, coffee maker, and microwave.

While this is a departure from the original community space of the boarding house, it offers each guest privacy and modern amenities but retains the same “at home” feel an early 1920s traveler might experience in a boarding house.

The building does not have an elevator. No smoking or pets are permitted throughout the building.
